Some Nepali Poem Of Gyan Udas ज्ञान उदासका केही कबिताहरु


Gyan Udas was born on Mangsir 24, 2000 BS (1943 AD) in Chainpur, Sankhuwasabha, Koshi. His childhood was molded in the settings of this quiet nook of Nepal. Udas did his education up to a Bachelor's degree, thereby building a groundwork for his future literary pursuits. Though he opted to venture into private business, his real love remained invariably with the field of literature.


    Literary Journey

     

    Gyan Udas's literary journey started in 2018 BS when his first poem, "Uday," was published. And after that, there has been no looking back. Right from the early days, he is getting a good response from the readers and continued to impress them with his distinctive voice and perspective.

     

    Over these years, Udas has come up with several poetry collections. They are:

     

    "Kunbes" (2019 BS) - Growth can be seen here both in style and theme.

     

    "Hami Bas Parkhirahechaun" (2028 BS) - This is another major work from this poet, who continues to busy himself with the poetic genre.

     

    Along with his own poems, Udas has enriched Nepali literature through the following works of editing and translation:

     

    "Hastakshar" (2049 BS) - Collection of signatures by renowned litterateurs and artists.

     

    "Pahaad" - A monthly literary magazine he edited.

     

    "Naya Khabar Kagaj" - A weekly publication he also edited.

     

    Scores of poems, stories, and articles published in different newspapers and magazines.

     

    Awards and Honors

     

    Udasa's works and contribution to Nepali literature have not gone unappreciated. In 2024 BS, he was awarded the Gold Medal by the Nepali Literary Institution for his outstanding contribution to poetry. He has also been bestowed with many other awards which include:

    Literary Philosophy and Style

     

    Ud'as is known for his commitment to poetry and he has a strong belief in the transformational power of literature. In all, he has been involved actively with the publication "Naya Khabar Kagaj" for more than 38 years, considering this as his companion and also a means for literary involvement. Much of his poetry is deep, with lots of introspection; it reflects on both personal experiences and wider observations.

     

    Even with the progressivist leaning of the publishing circles in literature, Udas still infuses his work with traditional attributes. He is stern about the poetry art and does not think highly of the existing literary politics. He also expresses concern as far as superficiality in the literary awards and recognition are concerned.

    Recent Works and Projects

     

    Udās has continued to work on new projects, including two forthcoming books. He is currently more concerned with a volume of poetry and a book on his contribution to literature. His commitment to these works shows that Udās indeed believes literature is a lifelong process, rather than an exercise in winning prizes.

    Personal Life

     

    Kathmandu resident, Gyan Udas lives together with his wife Prema Udas Shrestha and children, namely Pragnya, Vijaya, Bhava, and Junu. His personal life flows into his literature and he finds solace and inspiration both in his family and the peaceful surroundings of Sankhuwasabha.

     

    Challenges and Reflections

     

    Udas has been questioning the present political scenario and its consequences on literature and the arts during recent years. He is saddened by the fact that there is no real promotion in the development of literature but instead it has increased in popularity, the literary work through politics. Even after all these challenges, Udas looks ahead to a better future of Nepali literature and thus believes will keep on being enriched by the forthcoming generations of poets and writers.

     

    Legacy

     

    Gyan Udas is not only a poet but has grown into the embodiment of unity in pursuance for a commitment to literature. His works, editing, even musings on the path Nepali literature is taking, easily make him an important figure among his peers in the literary arena. His legacy is sealed with consistency to the craft and faith in the eternal power of poetry to stir the soul and activate societal change.

    सानो हातमा घडी
    ठूलो हातमा घडी
    समयको ज्ञान दिने
    सबैको हातमा घडी ।

    सानो होस् ठूलो होस्
    घडीभित्र सूई घुम्छ
    सेकेन्ड अनि मिनेट हुँदै
    अर्कोले घण्टाको सङ्केत दिन्छ ।

    साठी सेकेन्डको एक मिनेट
    साठी मिनेटको एक घण्टा
    यसरी नै उड्दै जान्छ
    हाम्रो जीवन-चङ्गा ।

    चौबीस घण्टाको एकदिन
    सात दिनको एक हप्ता
    जानी राखौँ बुझि राखौँ
    नत्र पछि परिन्छ मित्र ।

    तीस दिनको एक महिना
    बाह्र महिनाको एक वर्ष
    जीवन छँदै बाँड्न सिकौँ
    हाम्रो दुःख र हाम्रो हर्ष ।

    त्यसैले सम्झ भाइबहिनी
    समय त्यसै पाइँदैन
    आजको काम भोलि नभनौँ
    बगेको खोला र्फकँदैन ।

    मेरी दिदी

    मेरी दिदी कस्ती कस्ती
    रोएर पनि
    सधैं सधैं हाँसिरहेकी जस्ती
    केही हराएर पनि
    केही पाइरहेकी जस्ती !
    औँसीको रातपछिको
    पूणिर्माको जूनजस्ती ।

    हो, तिनी पक्कै फूलजस्ती
    रसयुक्त फूलजस्ती !

    आँखामा राखेर पनि नबिजाउने
    मेरी दिदी !
    सधैं सधैं 'भाइ' भनेर
    'दाइ'लाई भुल्न आँटेकी जस्ती
    केही हारेर पनि केही जितिरहेकी जस्ती
    कस्ती कस्ती
    केही बिर्सेर पनि
    केही सम्झिरहेकी जस्ती !
    मेरी दिदी कस्ती कस्ती ।

    मायाले बेचेर
    ममताले किनिहालूँजस्ती
    सधैं सधैं मेरो दुःखमा रोइरहने
    मेरो सुखमा हाँसिरहने
    मेरी दिदी
    तिनलाई सम्झेर, मेरो हृदय नै हर्दम
    आनन्दित-प्रफुल्लित !
    कसो-कसो
    तिनलाई आकाशका तारासँग
    तुलना गरिरहूँजस्तो ।

    मेरी दिदी कस्ती कस्ती
    सधैं सधैं पूर्वतिर मुस्कुराउने
    बिहानी उषाजस्ती !


    आफ्नै आँखामा

    मैले बाबुआमाको पनि परिचय पाउन सकिनँ
    मैले छोराछोरीको परिचय पाउन सकिनँ
    नाति, नातिनीहरूको पनि परिचय पाउन सकिनँ
    दाज्युभाको पिलो भएँ
    दिदीबहिनीका लागि ठेट्ना मकै
    मैले बाबुआमाको पनि परिचय पाइन
    मेरा भाइबहिनीको परिचय माथि छ
    मेरा आफन्तहरूको परिचय झन् माथि छ
    आफ्नो परिचय दिउँ भने
    मेरो परिचय नै छैन
    मेरोभन्दा ती छायाहरूको परिचय झन्झन् माथि छ

    ऊ जन्मेको मंगलबार

    त्यो ज्ञान उदास
    साँच्चैको उदास उदास,
    कहाँबाट आयो त्यो
    कसले ल्याएर यहाँ पछा¥यो ?
    सँधैको रून्छे रून्छे अनुहार लिएर
    त्यसलाई बाँच्न कसले सिकायो ?
    मरे पनि त हुन्थ्यो नि !
    त्यसको यहाँ अस्तित्वै छैन
    बाँच्नलाई त जीवन साँच्नुपर्छ
    त्यसले केही साँच्नै जानेन
    हरघडी बन्छ त्यो दुनियाँको उपहास
    साँच्चै त्यो ज्ञान उदास !
    सँधैको सबैको नरमाइलो अट्टाहास–अट्टाहास,
    ए, सायद त्यो सानो कोठामा जन्मेको होला
    त्यही कोठा र कोक्रोको परिधिभित्र
    सायद त्यो पुड्कै भएर हुर्केको होला
    मत धेरै भन्न सक्तिन ! त्यसले के बिगा¥यो बिगारेन
    सबै भन्छन् त्यसले त सबै बिगा¥यो रे
    एकजना भन्छन् त्यसले केही बिगारेन
    सबैको अगाडि एकजना मूर्ख बन्छ
    त्यसले यहाँबाट पनि लखेटिन प¥यो
    सबै र आफैलाई छाडेर
    अनि त के भनुँ त्यो ज्ञान उदास
    लाग्छ सँधैको निराशा निराश
    साँच्चै त्यो सँधैको उदास उदास
    त्यो मेरो एकजमानाको साथी हो
    म कसरी भुल्न सकूँ त्यसलाई ?
    हामी जन्मेथ्यौं एउटै आमाको गर्भबाट एकदिन
    ऊसले पृथ्वी छोयो, मैले आकाश
    जन्मेको दिन त पानी परेको थियो–यद्यपि
    घरभरि खुशियाली थियो,
    ‘छोरा’ जन्मेको उपलक्ष्यमा
    उसको बा आमामा पनि
    खुशीको आभास देखिन्थ्यो
    त्यसबेला छातीभरी बैँस बोकेकी एउटी तरूणी आई
    तिनले मलाई म्वाई खाई
    उसैबेला म तरूण भैसकेको थिएँ
    तर ज्ञान उदास ! त्यो सानो बच्चै
    थाङ्नामा गुट्मुट्याइएको थियो
    त्यसैले होला–
    त्यो ज्ञान उदास
    लाग्छ त्यसको जीवन सँधैको नीरस नीरस
    त्यो एउटा नरमाइलो क्षण र विरोधाभास
    हो,एउटा घटना याद आयो
    त्यसको पास्नीको दिन
    घर अगाडि कुकुर रोएथ्यो
    बिरालो र मुसाको घमासान युद्ध
    त्यसको पास्नीको साइत
    त्यहाँ त एउटा रणक्षेत्रै बनेथ्यो
    रगताम्य ! रगताम्य
    सायद त्यही रगत देखेर
    त्यो बालक तर्सेथ्यो
    सातो फिर्न सक्या होओइन होला अझै
    त्यही हड्बड,त्यही जमघट
    त्यही उजाड्लाग्दो झन्झटमा
    म एउटा क्यान्भास लिएर तैयार थिएँ
    सजिलैसँग उतार्न सकेँ–
    उसको तस्बीर
    तर पछिबाट राम्ररी हेर्छु त–
    नाकै छुटेछ सम्पूर्ण अनुहारसँग
    अस्तित्वै छुटेछ
    व्यक्तित्वै छुटेछ
    सम्पूर्ण !
    सम्पूर्ण जिन्दगीसँग
    अनि त,
    त्यो ज्ञान उदास
    साच्चैको उदास
    सँधैको निराश
    नयाँसडकको अल्मल्याइ र
    किचकन्नीको परिहास
    हो, त्यो ज्ञान उदास
    भर्खरको दुलहा–दुलहीले
    मनाउन नपाएको मधुमास !
    हो त्यो मंगलबार जन्मेको
    त्यसको पास्नी पनि मंगलबारै परेको
    हरे,कस्तो नरमाइलो बार यो
    कस्तो उजाड लाग्दो बार यो
    कस्तो दिक्दार लाग्दो बार यो
    अकबरे खुर्सानीको पिरो राग जस्तो
    बैँस नपुगेको युवकयुवतीको पराग जस्तो
    हेर्दै रिसाहा जस्तो बार यो
    बजारको गल्लीगल्ली र रछ्यान र छ्यानमा
    भुकी हिड्ने खिचा कुकुर जस्तो
    त्यो ज्ञान उदास जन्मेको मंगलबार
    साँच्चै धेरै दिन खान नपाउनेहरूको
    निन्याउरो र चाउरिएको अनुहार जस्तो ,
    लाग्छ त्यसैले–
    त्यो ज्ञान उदास
    सँधैको निराश
    हो,साँच्चै सँधैको उदास, उदास

    हिँड्न पनि साइत चाहिँदो रै'छ

    कहिलेकाहीँ हिँड्न पनि साइत चाहिँदो रै'छ
    कसो कसो बोल्न पनि साइत चाहिँदो रै'छ ।

    सबैसँग सधैँभरि जिस्किरहने बानी
    आँखाआँखा जुध्न पनि साइत चाहिँदो रै'छ ।

    गाउँघरको समाज पनि कहिले काहीँ कस्तो
    मनको फूल टिप्न पनि साइत चाहिँदो रै'छ ।

    संसारमा देखेजति सबै आफ्नो भन्थेँ
    तिनैसँग भेट्न पनि साइत चाहिँदो रै'छ ।

    बनावटी मुस्कानमा बम हुनसक्छ
    याद गर हाँस्न पनि साइत चाहिँदो रै'छ ।
