    Early Life: Siddhicharan Shrestha was born on 21st May 1912 in Okhaldhunga. Later his family shifted to Kathmandu where he joined Durbar High School. When he was in young age, he met a famous poet named Siddhi Das Amatya.

     

    In 1940, he was sent to prison for having written a poem that the Government didn't like. He spent several years in prison where he continued writing much poetry. His father died while he became in prison, however he became no longer allowed to attend his funeral.

     

    After his release from prison in 1945, he also labored as a journalist and turned into even the editor of Awaj, the first Nepali daily newspaper.

     

    In 1993, Nepal honored him with a picture on a postage stamp. They named a highway after him leading to Okhaldhunga, his birthplace. The government also renamed the birthplace to Siddhicharan municipality.

     

    He become born on October 7, 1912, in Dhankuta, Nepal. Siddhicharan Shrestha is one of the maximum well-known and esteemed poets of Nepal.  Lots of people have loved his writings, and he is considered one massive influencer.

     

    Early Life and Education:

    He spent his childhood in Dhankuta, a picturesque place of Nepal. His family was fond of literature and music; due to this, Siddhicharan was developing an interest in the arts when he was very young. His father, Nilkantha Shrestha, was also culturally oriented, and he used to contribute toward developing this side of Siddhicharan.

     

    He joined the traditional Sanskrit Pathshala and studied Sanskrit and ancient texts, which helped him develop a better understanding of language and literature.

     

    Poetry Beginning:

    As Siddhicharan grew up, he started writing poems. His poems were enjoyed by readers because they sounded nice and were full of emotion. Nature and feelings, such as love and sorrow, were common subjects for his early poems.

     

    Siddhicharan liked the romantic poets of his time. He combined their style with his own ideas-that is what made his poems special because of their traditional and modern tones.

     

    Writing in Nepali:

    Besides his own poetry, Siddhicharan contributed to the growth of Nepali literature. He joined various groups and projects that helped the Nepali language and culture to grow. For this fact alone, people admired him.

     

    He followed the famous poet named Devkota and helped to make a special kind of Nepali poetry called "Maithili style." He has also tried different types of poems-ghazals, songs, etc.

     

    Writing Changes and the World:

    Siddhicharan was writing in one of the most transitional phases of Nepal. His poems dealt with this transition that Nepal was facing-often face-to-face. Sometimes love, sometimes the changing face of society due to new ideas-the list may go on.

     

    Legacy and Awards:

    The poems of Siddhicharan are loved to this date. He also received many awards and accolades for his writing, one of which was the Madan Puraskar-a pretty big deal in Nepal.

    पौडिरहेको माछा जस्तै
    उडिरहेको चरा जस्तै,
    दौडिरहेको समय जस्तै
    उसले उसलाई देख्यो ।
    पानीसँग गई उसले भन्यो-
    “त्यो माछालाई समात्छु;”
    आकाशसित गई जोड लगायो-
    त्यो चरालाई पक्रन्छु;
    महाकालसित गई बिन्ति चढायो-
    समयलाई म रोक्छु ।
    हुन्न कसैले पनि भनेनन्,
    अनि ती दुवैको बिहे भयो ।

    म बहुला होइन

    आमा तिनीहरूले जेसुकै भनून्,

    मैले गर्न नहुने केही गरेर हिँडेकै छैन,
    बोल्न नहुने केही बोलेर हिँडेकै छैन ।

    मेरो आँखा छ, त्यसैले हेर्न पाऊँ भन्छु;

    नाङ्गो भएर कोही नहिँडोस् भन्छु;

    सिद्धिचरण

    हिजो थिएन, भोलि नहुने आज यहाँ सिद्धिचरण छ,
    हाँस्छ, खेल्छ र रुन्छ, घुम्छ, आफ्नै गीत गाउँछ
    गहिरो कालो माथिबाट यौटा फिलिंगो उठेको,
    निभ्न खातिर पिलिपिलि गर्छ नाम जसको जिएको ।

    आज यो चलमलाउँछ, अचल भोलि पर्दछ,
    ‍खोजी जसको गर्नलाई युग युगान्तर बित्त्दछ
    बग्छ सवेग अनन्त धार, त्यसको कण यो एक छ,
    फेरि मिलेर अनन्तमाथि अनन्तसम्म पुग्दछ

    युगको उर्दी

    संकट पर्दछ मान्छेलाई, ढुङ्गालाई के पर्छ !
    असिना आई फुलबारीकै फूलहरू पहिले झार्छ ।

    जसको छाती जति विशाल त्यति नै सङ्कट उसलाई
    गोली लाग्दछ बापूमा नै केही हुँदैन अरूलाई ।

    वडवानलले रोज्दछ सागर खोँच र खोला रोज्दैन,
    संकटले पनि भुसुनाहरूमा क्वै मीठो रस पाउन्न ।

    तरुणीजनले बालकहरूमा के रस पाउँदछन् साथी,
    संकटदेखि थिचिनेहरूमा संकटको मिल्छ र छाती?

    संकट भोगी मर्नेहरूकै नाममहा संकट खुल्छ
    प्रेमी जनको याद बुनेरै प्रेमिकाको जीवन चल्छ ।

    मानिस तैँले उठनै पर्छ, दु:ख संकट भोग्नै पर्छ
    युगको उर्दी माने पो ता मानिस यो मानिस बन्छ ।

    टाङ्टाङ् टुङ्टुङ्, भाङ्भाङ् भुङ्भुङ्

    चन्दागिरिमा ढाक्रे हिंड्छन् ।
    यू.एन्.ओ. मा वहस छ छिन् छिन् ।
    पाटन गाउँछ दिनभर टुङ्टुङ् ।
    भारी खोल्दछ सँगा भांज्याङ् ।

    भटमास मकै गुन्द्रुक सीतन ।
    जल्छ चितामा हरहर भृतजन ।
    बोकी यात्री हिंड्दछ रेल ।
    गाडा तान्दछ बूढो वैल ।

    ‘हुँ मणिपद्ध्मे‘ भज्दछ लामा ।
    रोगी बस्दछ एक थलामा ।
    एउटा आउँछ, अर्को जान्छ ।
    कुकुर भुक्छ, बूढो खोक्छ ।

    साहुलाई छलि हिड्छ ऋणी ।
    युवकहरुले ताक्छन् तरुणी ।
    “बालक बबुरो “ घोक्छन् बालक
    आगोलाई भन्दछ पावक ।

    चामल थाप्‌छ वीरवहादुर
    गर्छ हिसाब पूर्णबहादुर ।
    चालामाला यस्तै यस्तै ।
    टाङ्टाङ् टुङ्टुङ्, भाङ्भाङ् भुङ्भुङ्

    इच्छाहरु क्यै कोर्कार पारी,
    अनुभवहरु क्यै भूलले जोरी,
    भित्र अलीकति जोश खन्याई,
    मानिस रच्‌दछ विधिले बाबै !

    आँधी आउँछ, उर्लन्छ नदी,
    गर्जन्छ मेघ, वर्षन्छ झरी,
    प्यासी जीभ्रो मृत्यु निकाल्छ,
    तैपनी मानिस बाँकी बच्छ ।

    जन्म मृत्यु दुइ छेउ समाती,
    वर वरु आई, पर पर भागी
    मानिसले नै सृष्टि लम्यायो,
    रोइ मिलाउन नसकी रोयो ।

    मर्न जनानी मानिस ज्यूँछ
    ज्यून नजानी मानिस मर्छ,
    कस्तो, कस्तो, के, के, के, के, ?
    तह नमिलेको दुनिया हे हे ।

    संस्कृति भन्छ, इज्जत भन्छ,
    यथार्थताको पर गै बस्छ,
    अलमल भैकन अलमल पारी,
    दुनियाँ चल्दछ बूझ पचाई ।

    दुनियाँ यसरी चल्दछ बाबै,-
    भैडा जस्तै, बाख्रा जस्तै,
    बुद्ध, क्राइष्ट गान्धीहरुको
    आलोकमहाँ धुलो छर्दै ।

    कलिजुग आयो पाप बढायो,
    खान नपाई पेट सुकायो,
    मनमा नौतह पाप छ भित्र,
    बाहिर केवल भेष रँगायो ।

    इतिहास यही छोड्छ तराना-
    खोज्दै हिंड्दै दाना माना,
    मानिस कसरी राक्षस बन्छ,
    खान नपाई कसरी मर्छ ।

    हा हा हू हू गर्दै दगुर्योग,
    “माछा माछा केवल भ्यागुतो”

    परिचय


    नेपाली हूँ कठिन गिरिमा चढ्नलाई सिपालु
    बैरी नै होस् तर छु बहुतै दीनमाथी दयालु
    तातो रातो रगत रिपुको प्यूँन हर्दम् तयार,
    मेरो मेरो प्रिय खुकुरी यो हेर भै होसियार।

    शिक्षा मेरो जगतभरको गर्नु रक्षा सदैव
    दीक्ष यै हो परहित गरूँ अाखिरी श्वाससम्म
    ज्वाला दन्कोस् दनदन जहाँ मृत्यु अाई फुकेको
    अत्याचारी यदि छ त कहिँ माथ नै ताक्छु त्यस्को।

    ड्याङ्ड्याङ् डुङ्ड्ङ् गरि प्रलयका मेघ बाजा बजाई
    कालो-नीलो गगनभरको दैत्य अाकार ल्याई
    राकून् बाटा रिपुहरु मिली केही सङ्काच मात्र
    अात्मा मेरो अमर छ बुझ्यौ अस्त कैले म हुन्नँ।

    गोली लागी पटपट फुटास् देहको अङ्ग-अङ्ग
    छाला टाँगी वदन सब होस् मासुको मात्र पुञ्ज
    बाटो होअोस् भतभत उसै पोलिने बालुवाको
    देशद्रोही यदि छ त कहिँ माथ नै ताक्छु त्यस्को।

    कालो गङ्ग तिमिर बहने पीप या मूत्र विष्टा
    घेरोस् चारैतिर तर पनी खुब मानी सुबिस्ता
    पौडी खेल्दै सहज रिपुको देशमा बोल्छु धावा
    नेपाली हूँ कठिन भमरी फोर्नलाई चनाखा।

    हाँसी हाँसी विपुल दुःखको गर्तमा फाल हाली
    कालै अाअोस् त पनि खुसीको हर्षगाना सुनाई
    बढ्नेछु के डर मरणको एकबाजी सबैले
    मर्नै पर्ने बुझ प्रकृतिको ऐन हो देह फेर्ने।

    मेरो प्रतिबिम्व

    क्यै हारे झैं, क्यै बिर्से झैं,
    को त्यो पथमा आइरहेको ?
    कुक्कुर जस्तै लुरु लुरु हिंड्दै,
    दुर्बलताले पीर निखन्दै,
    को त्यो पथमा आइरहेको ?

    हो रात थियो जून खिलेको बाहिर विश्व थियो मुदित,
    कोठाभित्र म पल्टिरहेथें अँगाली विश्वसित ।
    कोमल करले मेरो ओंठ छोइ भन्यो विस्मित उसले-
    ‘किन रात पर्योठ ? किन घाम गयो ? वा रात पठायो कसले ‘
    सप्रेम भनें मैले “यी हुन् रात र दिन दाजु र बहिनी
    दाइचाहिं दिन हो राजा हो बहिनी रात मज्जाकी
    सिउरी फूल ताराहरुको रात कहीं खेली रहँदा—
    मानिसहरु गै तानी ल्याए वर पर घर वन र चउरमा
    झन् विस्मित भई सोध्यो उसले ‘बाले तान्नु भएको ?
    “हो वा मैले पनि तिमीले पनि“ मैले उत्तर झट्ट दिएँ
    विश्वमोहन शोची भन्दछ हगि मैले हात समाएँ
