Motiram Bhatta was born in 1923 in Kathmandu, Nepal. His parents were Daaramam Bhatt and Repumardini Bhatt. He played a crucial role in shaping Nepali culture, literature, and society. Motiram attended Durbar High School in Kathmandu and later went to Banaras, India, for further education. He learned Persian and Urdu during his time in Banaras.
In 1944, Motiram returned to Nepal and continued his education in high
school, studying Sanskrit and English. In 1948, he completed his proficiency
certificate from Calcutta. At the age of 14, he got married in 1937 and
continued his educational journey.
Motiram's passion for Nepali language and literature grew, and he
started contributing to publications. In 1938, he went back to Banaras to focus
on Nepali language and literature. He contributed articles and later published
and edited the magazine 'Gorkha Bharat Life.' He also printed Bhanubhakta's
'Balkanda' translation in Banaras.
Motiram Bhatt made significant contributions to Nepali literature,
writing poems and gazals like 'Gajendra Moksha,' 'Prachanda Devotion,' and
'Uchacharra.' He collected the works of Bhanubhakta Acharya and played a
crucial role in promoting Nepali literature.
Motiram was not only a poet but also a journalist, editor, publisher,
physician, critic, investigator, and founder in the literary field. He
established the 'Pashwat Press' in Kathmandu, providing essential support to
the printing and publication of Nepali literature.

Motiram Bhatta made Bhanu Bhakta Acharya famous. Bhanu translated
Ramayan into the language everyone could understand, and Motiram published and
shared it in Nepal.
Motiram's interest began at a friend's wedding where he heard Bhanu
Bhakta's Ramayana. Inspired, he started learning more about Bhanu Bhakta. This
event had a big impact on Nepali literature. Bhanu Bhakta's writings turned
Motiram into a poet, writer, critic, biographer, and publisher.
Motiram Bhatta Advances Nepal's Publishing Industry
Motiram Bhatta made Nepal's printing industry better. He and his friends
started a printing press, making it the first private one in Nepal. This press
helped many Nepali writers and poets share their work. Motiram Bhatta even
printed a biography of Bhanu Bhakta, titled Kabi Bhanubhakta Ko Jivan Charitra.

Motiram didn't just sing; he also learned music and played the sitar
from Pannalal, a famous sitar player in India's Benaras. His passion for music
and poetry made a big impact on Nepal's cultural scene.
Motiram Bhatta Linked Nepal to Global Literary Scene
Motiram Bhatta was an important person who helped connect Nepal to the
rest of the world through literature. He knew many languages like Sanskrit,
Nepali, Hindi, English, Urdu, and Persian. Bhatta learned Nepali at a Persian
school.
For 15 years, Motiram worked hard for Nepali literature. During this
time, he wrote and edited about 25 books. He wrote some poems in Hindi and
Urdu, but mostly, he wrote essays, plays, and stories in Nepali. Some of his
famous works are Manodweg Prawah, Panchak Prapancha, Shakuntala, Priyadarsika,
and Pikdoot.
Motiram's work was so good that it changed Nepali literature a lot. He
started a group called Mitramandali, where people helped him write and publish
books in Nepali. In 1866, he also began a Nepali magazine called Gorkha Bharat
Jeevan.
Motiram Bhatta: Yubakabi
Motiram Bhatta is like a superhero in Nepal. He was a special poet called Yubakabi_Motiram_Bhatta. People think he's a national hero because he did great things for Nepali literature. He wrote a lot of poems and stories from 1883 to 1919, and that time is even named after him - Motiram Era! They also called him Yuwa Kabi, which means young poet. म तिम्रा अघी पर्न लायक् कहाँ छूम तिम्रा अघी पर्न लायक् कहाँ छू, त्यसैले अघी सर्न लायक् कहाँ छू । हुकुम हुन्छ तिम्रो त हाजिर छँदैछू, बिना मर्जि आँट गर्न लायक् कहाँ छू। अरूका ऊपर आँखिभौँ तानि हाने, म जावो हरे ! मर्न लायक् कहाँ छू। जहाँसम्म मन चल्छ लौ हुन्छ घुर्कुन्, तिनै झैँ नजर् तर्न लायक कहाँ छू। सहडमै छ मन् हर्न सक्नू हरीले, सुनीस् मोति त्यो गर्न लायक् कहाँ छू। |
पयर्मा कडा चोट पायेर आयेपयर्मा कडा चोट पायेर आये म भन्दै थिएँ होस राखेर आये। फजीती तहाँ भित्रको देख्छ जस्ले उती फकँदा कान् समायेर आये । म आउन्न पक्का भनी भन्नु क्यै दिन्, यती दिन् पछि क्या छकाएर आये । न केही भनेको न केही सुनेको बिना कारणै मुख् फुलाएर आये । म मागेर खोस्ने थिएँ मो कहाँ मन् कता जानि त्यो मन् लुकाएर आये । जतिले तहाँ भित्र ता जान पाये त्यतिले दसेक् ठेक खाएर आए । अहा कस्तरी छाती झल्क्यो हरीको जसै मोति माला झुलाये र आये । |

सरकार पो किन चाहियोदुइ आँखिभौँ त तयार छन्, तरबार पो किन चाहियो, तिमी आफु मालिक भैगयौ, सरकार पो किन चाहियो ।।१।। पहरा कडा छ कटाक्षको, हरदम तयार मुहारमा, घर भन्नु भारि महल न हो, दरबार पो किन चाहियो ।।२।। कति चम्किलो छ हँसाइको हिसिमा किरन पनि दाँतको मणि, मोती, नीर जुहार न हो, अरु हार पो किन चाहियो ।।३।। |
